Blues on the Green

My goal this summer is to get out and enjoy some of the fun events going on in Austin. During the school year I am so busy with rugby, work, and school that I don't often get to take advantage of all the different things happening in Austin.

One of the summer events I enjoy going to is Blues on the Green, a free concert held at Zilker Park (the site of Austin City Limits Festival). There are always tons of people and dogs and it's a great opportunity to people watch while enjoying some outdoor music. Even though it was hot, it was fun to spread out our blanket and enjoy a picnic dinner before the music.

When Morey saw that the dog next to us was getting meat from his owner's sandwich as rewards for doing tricks, he wanted to see if his tricks could earn the same reward. I didn't want Morey to show up the other dog so he had to be content with his own dinner of dry dog food.

He was much more interested in the leftover ice that my friend had in his cooler. Morey was more than willing to help dispose of the ice so he didn't have to carry it back to his car! What a good boy!

Morey enjoyed being the center of attention of our group. Usually when I go out with friends, Morey is in work mode so they all enjoyed having an opportunity to interact with him and treat him like a normal dog.

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed??

I recently had the opportunity to compete in the Endeavor Games, a sports competition for people with physical disabilities located at Oklahoma Central University. I went to compete in handcycling and track which were both new competitive sports for me. I didn't have any competition in my class so I came in first in all the events I finished. It was a fun weekend and great experience!

Because the events were outside, I left Morey at home in Austin. At rugby tournaments I can leave him in the gym while I play and still keep him in eyesight, but it would have been a bit more difficult to keep tabs on him on the course of the 20k and too hot to leave him outside at the track.

When I got home, this is what I found waiting for me. I felt like Goldilocks asking "who has been sleeping in my bed?" Apparently Morey took advantage of having the entire bed to himself and decided to cozy up in the covers. I hope he slept well!

Summer Camp: Car Rides

Morey likes to go for car rides with his friends. I used to have the same van that Grandma does and so it makes Morey feel at home to ride in an Astro again. Unfortunately, he used to be the only dog who needed to ride on a seat and so he is used to spreading out and taking up most of the seat.

As you can see, he doesn't leave much room for poor Jessie and Buddy! Luckily they are both very polite and are willing (although not happy) about giving up the space for their guest.

Summer Camp: Romping

Morey always likes playing with his friend and my former service dog, Jessie. Their style of play is a bit different as Morey likes to chase tennis balls and Jessie prefers to chew on them, but they are still good companions.

Summer Camp: Walks in the Country

Morey enjoyed daily walks with his human and dog friends. Morey's red harness lets him know that he is free to roam, wander, and sniff and he takes full advantage of those privileges!

Summer Camp: Swimming

At summer camp, Morey got to swim in a regular pool and a splash/kiddie pool. When it comes to water (as long as it's not in the bathtub!) Morey isn't picky!
Ready, set...

Go!

Do I have to get out now?
Fun in the sun!

Tennis balls+water-could there be a better day to spend a hot day?

Summer Camp

Morey was very excited to arrive at Grandma's summer camp. The week was full of activities including swimming, walking in the countryside, playing ball, romping with friends, and chewing on antlers (which Morey prefers to regular bones). There were so many cute moments to capture that they each warranted their own blog post so please keep reading!

Since Morey is used to his "desk job" that includes sleeping under a desk most of the day, he wasn't quite prepared for the intense schedule of summer camp. By day two he was exhausted and nap time had to be added to his daily routine. He also found two new movies that he really enjoyed watching (Lady and the Tramp and Marmaduke) because of the dog sounds and images.

Morey had a great time at summer camp and can't wait to come back again!

Me"Morey"-ial Day

Since Morey's name is part of the word Memorial (well, kind of), he thought the holiday was all about him. And what he wanted to do for his holiday was spend a week in Indiana at Grandma's "summer camp". Since I was on a break from classes and work wasn't too busy, I thought that was a pretty good idea!

For the first time on a flight, Morey got his own ticket. Airport systems don't seem to recognize any other type of service dog other than guide dogs because that is the only option to choose when you are booking a flight and what appeared on Morey's ticket.

We arrived in Indianapolis on the day of the Indy 500 and Morey was impressed by the racecar that was inside the airport, but he was even more excited to catch the Grandma bus to summer camp!
